Our LEAP team took signed petitions to Edmonton City Hall, and then to the Alberta Legislature and then the Edmonton Valley Zoo
The World Is Watching Rally 2021
August 15, 2021
COVID stopped many of our events the last 18 months but we were back at it with the announcement that the Edmonton Valley Zoo has refused help from Free the Wild for a free independent veterinary assessment. We had supporter travel from Ontario, British Columbia and Calgary for this event!

VegFest Tabling 2019
September 14, 2019 LEAP participated in the 2nd Annual VegFest Edmonton. It was tons of fun and we got a huge stack of postcards signed to send into City Hall!
World Elephant Day 2018
August 12, 2018
World Elephant Day for 2018 saw LEAP hosting a peaceful demonstration outside the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Despite cold temperatures and rain, we had 43 members come out to speak up for Lucy! The Zoo still found it necessary to call the police on us, a waste of time and resources as they came by, were friendly and asked us not to jaywalk! We thank each and every one of you that came out in that miserable weather and stood your ground for Lucy!
Spring Into Sprinkles Fun Run/Walk
April 21, 2018
We had two LEAP members, Kathleen and Patti, suggest we try a strategy of using Fun Run/Walks to get the word out about Lucy! We thought, why not try? We designed a brand new running shirt (which sold out!) and they were part of our first race committee along with Sam, Marilyn and Lacey. Our first race was run at Rundle Park in Edmonton on April 21 and it looked fantastic to see all those purple shirts participating! We have two more runs coming this summer, with the next one in July! We also have members in different locations around the world representing Lucy and LEAP in their own races wearing the new #TeamLucy shirts!
Grade 2 Class from Brampton, Ontario
October 30, 2017
LEAP was contacted by a grade 2 teacher, Sara Mody from Brampton, Ontario, back in September. She wanted to get her students interested in different animal causes, and she chose Lucy as their first cause! We sent Ms Mody some information, the kids activity sheets we have and our bracelets to her class room. She sent me the package of letters and drawings they wrote to Edmonton mayor Don Iveson which we forward on to city hall. We are thankful to have young, forward-thinking teachers like Ms Mody to have teaching our children. Thank you to her and all her Grade 2 students!
