LEAP decided we needed to start the New Year off involving all of Lucy's advocates from all over the globe.  They stepped up and we pinned their locations from all around our planet!

On January 12, 2018 LEAP held an educational event, Put Lucy On Agenda Information Tabling 5 at the downtown campus of MacEwan University

On Jan 22nd, 2018 LEAP advocates showed up to City of Edmonton council meeting for the 11th Step Up For Lucy Event.

On Feb 12th, 2018 LEAP advocates showed up to City of Edmonton council meeting for the 12th Step Up For Lucy Event.

On Feb 26th, 2018 LEAP advocates showed up to City of Edmonton council meeting for the 13th Step Up For Lucy Event.

On March 3rd we held our Spring LEAP Meeting at The Billiard Club in Old Strathcona. We discussed the upcoming year for LEAP and to gather ideas and welcome new (and old) LEAP members. For the Meeting Minutes, click here.

On March 12th , 2018 LEAP advocates showed up to City of Edmonton council meeting for the 14th Step Up For Lucy Event.

April 9: We are excited to announce that our new

geo-tracking ads went live. A local media company generously donated one month of free advertising to LEAP and created these excellent ads for us.

The ads will be targeting people in specific geographic locations and will appear on their cell phones when they open a browser. The locations we have selected are City Hall, Alberta Legislature and the offices of the Minister's of Environment and Agriculture.

On April 7 Becky ran the first marathon in Jasper, AB to break in our new race shirts!

On April 9 we again attended City Council meetings with the 15th Step Up For Lucy Event

On April 13 Mary-Ann and Brian spent the day at the University of Alberta Student Union Building talking to students and getting postcards signed to send into city councillors.

April 21 LEAP members participated in our first Fun Run/Walk at the Spring Into Sprinkles race in Rundle Park in Edmonton. We are super proud of all our members that came down to be part of #TeamLucy! 

On May 7 we again attended City Council meetings with the 16th Step Up For Lucy Event

MAY 19 LEAP members participated in our first Light Brigade of the year to mark the start of the 42nd year of Lucy's captivity

JUNE 24 Our Calgary contingent Ran representing #TeamLucy ran a half marathon for the Diva Run, lead by Kathleen Johnson!

JUNE LEAP was proud to host the local screenings of "Love & Bananas"at 5 different dates in Edmonton at the Metro Cinema After one screening, Producer/Director/Actress Ashley Bell skyped in and did a q&a with the audience! 

JUNE 26 LEAP member Tami Lindberg walked 20km in Red Deer, Alberta as a personal protest to the EVZ. 20km is about the average range an elephant in the wild would walk on a daily basis.  Lucy does far less than that every day at the zoo!

On July 9 we again attended City Council meetings with the 18th Step Up For Lucy Event

JULY 22 LEAP members participated in our 2nd 5K Fun Run/Walk. Proceeds going to the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Society of Canada. Dedicated to the conservation of the critically endangered mountain and lowland gorillas and their habitat.

AUGUST 12 was World Elephant Day and LEAP members held a peaceful demonstration at the Edmonton Valley Zoo in support of Lucy.  Despite cold temperatures and rain, 43 members came out.  Members in Calgary, AB and Memphis, TN also held their own WED events in their home towns for Lucy!

AUGUST 18 LEAP took our Calgary advocate Kathleen to visit and check on Lucy at the EVZ

AUGUST 19 LEAP advocate Kathleen came up from Calgary to run for #TeamLucy in the Edmonton Servus Marathon 10K and was surprised by 2 more runners from Calgary in the Half Marathon donning the #TeamLucy shirts!  Thank you Calgary!

On September 5 we again attended City Council meetings with the 19th Step Up For Lucy Event

On September 8 we had our last Fun Run/Walk event of 2018. We participated in the Cupcake Classic with all proceeds going to SCARS
